Sunday Recipe: Jamaican Sweet & Sour Chicken

It’s another Sunday fam, and you know we love to give you great Jamaican recipe ideas to make your Sunday the best ever. Today our recipe is the Sweet & Sour Chicken, dating back to the earlier centuries when the Chinese came to the island, this dish is distinctly from the island’s Chinese heritage. However, as you know, with everything Jamaican, even if its not indigenous to the island, we find some way to make it our own. So get you pots started to prepare a finger licking pot of sweetness for you and your family. See it below.


For 8 people ()

  • 2 whole chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon ReCaFo’s Jamaican Sweet & Spicy Sauce
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic
  • 6 slices pineapple
  • 1 cup mushroom
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock*


  1. De-bone chicken breast, cut in small cubes, wash in a 1/4 cup vinegar and 4 cups of water solution.
  2. Finely chop onion and garlic, chop pineapple and mushroom, dice carrot.
  3. Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  4. In a wok, heat Vegetable Oil, add half of the garlic and saute for 1 minute.
  5. Add chicken and keep stirring, as soon as chicken is cooked, add soy sauce, pineapple, mushroom, carrot, vinegar, sugar and stock.
  6. Add the remaining garlic and onion and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.Method Note: To Make Stock – Add 1/2 packet Cock Soup Mix to 2 cups boiling water, stir and leave to stand for 10 minutes, strain and use as directed.
