Recipe of the Day: Jamaican Ackee Fritters

Ackee is Jamaica’s national dish, and it is a big part of every Jamaican’s life whether as an adult or during their childhood. It is quick and easy and when combined with other authentic Jamaican foods, it makes a great breakfast item. Today we give you a recipe for a crispy Ackee Fritters that you will definitely love. Cooking time: 20m


For 6 people ()

  • 1/2 pound counter flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small sweet pepper, diced
  • 1 cup Ackee, drained and crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Hot Pepper Sauce
  • 1 medium egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil


  1. In a large bowl sift together flour, salt and white pepper.
  2. Add onions, diced sweet peppers, crushed Ackee and Hot Pepper Sauce.  Mix well.
  3. Add beaten egg and gradually add just enough milk to make a batter that drops easily from a spoon.
  4. In a large skillet heat  Vegetable Oil. Drop batter using a tablespoon; fry for 5 minutes, turning on both sides until golden brown.  Drain on absorbent paper.

    1. I am not really sure what you could use apart from eggs since we have never done it without eggs before. However, you can play around with suitable substitutes that you think will work, or even try it without the eggs or any substitutes at all and you should be good. 🙂
