Recipe of the Day: Jamaican Easter Bun

There are just a few days left in Easter, and nothing makes a Jamaican Easter season special like some authentic bun and cheese. Today we give you a easy recipe to make your own homemade Easter Bun for you and the family yo enjoy. Check out the recipe below.

For 10 people ()


  • 1 cup(s) milk
  • 1 cup(s) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup(s) Guava Jam
  • 1 medium egg (optional)
  • 3 tablespoon(s) Margarine, melted
  • 1 pound(s) counter flour
  • 1 tablespoon(s) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1 teaspoon(s) mixed spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) nutmeg, grated
  • 1/2 cup(s) mixed peel
  • 1/4 cup(s) raisins, soaked
  • 1 tablespoon(s) Browning

Jamaican Easter Bun Directions

Heat milk, stir in sugar and 1/4 cup Guava Jam and mix until dissolved, then put to cool.

Beat egg and add to cooled milk mixture along with melted Margarine.

Sift together dry ingredients. Make a well in the center of dry ingredients, and add the liquid mixture.

Add mixed peel, soaked raisins and Browning and mix well.

Scrape batter into a greased 12″x 4″x 3″ loaf tin.

Bake at 180°C/350°F for 1/2 an hour.  Lower temperature to 160°C/325°F and continue baking for another 30 minutes.

Remove bun from pan and allow to cool.

Melt remaining Guava Jam and use to glaze the warm bun.

To Serve: Slice and serve with Tastee Processed Cheese or natural cheddar cheese.
Method Note: Milk may be substituted with wine or water.
